Spring Issue and Big News

The Jeanne d'Arc Living Spring issue (#3) has finally arrived stateside with great news! The company is trying to capture a larger market here in the USA by absorbing the shipping fee for a year. Won’t you help them achieve their dream of growing an audience to the point where they can print in the U.S.?
The price will now be $14.00 an issue.  OMG that is huge- a $10 savings.

Jeanne D'Arc Living is a Danish Indie magazine that successfully challenges the way romantic lifestyle publications are done.  It is truly like purchasing a very good book every month.  It is translated to English, free of advertising, and printed on heavy paper. Available only at Gillyweed!!

Week 13... The Color of Inspiration

The outside of our building is getting a major face lift with new windows, transoms, door and a good ol' cleaning.... the inside is seeing a few changes too.
My project this week was inspired by a display at Anthropologie (confession- my inspiration usually comes from this store!)  I loved how they tiled one wall in the "bathroom" section of their store.
I also drew inspiration from a store in Atlanta called Boxwoods.  Recently they opened up an annex across the street which features a lot of home goods & accessories.  I really loved how they added shutters to their niche.  So off I went scouring my local haunts for little glass tiles and shutters.  The shutters I found at my salvage yard for $5 each!!  Tiles were found at Floor & Decor in Fayetteville.

Do you remember the before??  The bookshelves were hidden inside this conference room.  The original plan was to tear down all 4 walls in the conference room but then I remembered my two inspirational photos from above.  Save the shelves!!!!!  I still have the other side to do and add the grout but you can see how great it is going to be...

Mosaic Monday

I joined the masses last week and purchased an iPad 3.  Originally I purchased it for the new shop in lieu of a computer as there are some really cool POS apps out there.  You see I've never had an iPad, Kindle, or Nook before so while I am suppose to be learning this new POS system.. I keep getting distracted by all the cool new magazines that I have discovered!  Do you read magazines on your iPad??
Here are some of my new favorite online magazines.  Most are free so go ahead.. download & enjoy!!

For Mosaic Monday, I have put together some pictures from Pinterest and Etsy for iPad covers.  I'm in the market for one.. just not sure what I want.

This mosaic has been linked up with Little Red House.  Have a wonderful week everyone!

Hens & Chicks

I do not have a green thumb.  Nope not at all.  I buy plants already made up and stick them into my pots.. not plant them into my pots, I just drop them down and run!!  The hens and chicks are the only ones that seem to survive more than a few months for me and that is why I love them so.  Yesterday I found a huge selection of them at our local Walmart Nursery Center and went crazy.  They look especially good in my butterfly pots that I have for sale in the Gillyweed booth for only $2.95 each!!
I'll be getting more for sure after seeing these beautiful images on Pinterest...

Happy Spring Ya'll !!

Enjoy!!

Mosaic Monday

If you read about my Week 11 challenge, you will remember how smitten I have become with color blocking.  Apparently it is the trend right now because I have seen color coded bookshelves all over the net lately.  Ah Ha.. found my Sunday afternoon project!  Kids come help your mother!!

With grunts and complaints, they reluctantly helped me take ever book from our "Library" and placed them in color piles on the living room floor.  BTW- this rolling ladder was the very first purchase I made when we built the house 9 years ago.  I had the ladder before we had actual architectural plans!!
With lots of cleaning (pollen is everywhere since I love to keep my windows open), re-grouping, re-arranging, and tons of giggles from the kids finding our old yearbooks.... voila the after!

I think it is fabulous!!  To keep the color inspiration going, here is my Mosaic Monday with color blocking images I found on Pinterest and Google.
I'll be linking up to Little Red House this week for Mosaic Monday.  Hope you have a great week!!

Enjoy!

Week 11... The Color of a Challenge

This week is all about a challenge....10 canvases to paint in one week.  Why?  The Spring Art Walk will be on March 23rd this year in downtown Newnan and I want to put a few of my Encaustic paintings on display in the Gillyweed booth.  You see with all the activity going on with the future store, I haven't had the opportunity to paint!!  So time to bust a move and get back into my studio.
My goal is to get the little 8x8 Shelf Sitters done over the next few days.  My inspiration this time around is the color wheel and these beautiful images found on Pinterest.

I'm just loving how these colors blend so beautifully together!  Hope to see you next Friday on Main Street for Art Walk.

Enjoy!!

Mosaic Monday

This will be a fun week for me!  Tuesday I finally have my long awaited meeting with the City of Newnan Planning Commission to go over the renovation plans for the outside of my future store.  Remember what it looked like before... read about it here.  Hopefully I will get the green light to make our necessary changes and we can go forth with the project.  That would include removing the vinyl siding and wooden awning.  Yeah!  In the meantime, here is a sneak peak of some of the interior design choices that I have made.
Paint, from Sherwin Williams, is Mindful Gray on side walls and Sea Salt on back focal wall.  Concrete will be stained with a semi transparent stain called Cocoa Bean, also from Sherwin Williams.  Chandeliers will be hung throughout but these 2 are my favorite!  The lighter wood chandelier will get turquoise beads added to the bottom.
Fingers crossed the brick will be in nice enough condition where I don't have to paint the outside of the building.  I have decided to put up a small dome awning over the door to replace the large wooden monster that is there now.  The awning will have a sunbrella fabric called Aruba.  Now I am on the lookout for 2 oil lamps to hang up outside during our evening events since I don't have outside lights.  So there you have it.. we are moving along swimmingly!!  For Mosaic Monday I am highlighting several outdoor storefronts that I have gotten inspiration from.  In just a few short weeks.. my Gillyweed will be ready to show off its facelift!

Week 10... The Color of your Neighborhood

Next on my list is the color of your neighborhood... that was not hard to find at all!  Everything is in bloom and my favorites right now are these forsythia bushes that I always pass on my morning walk.
Now that it is (usually) over 60 degrees, I have come out of my cave and have picked up my walking routine with my BF Noelle.  She laughs at my aversion for cold weather since she is from the North. Those darn Yankee's!!  We truly are lucky to have the most beautiful subdivision to walk in...

Lake Redwine with over 300 acres of gorgeous lake views.

Those are my knobby knees.. can you hear them creaking from lack of exercise this winter?  Another great reason to exercise is to hang out with this guy in the mornings.. Noelle's walking partner named Duke.

So that's it for week 10...Enjoy!!

Mosaic Monday

I didn't plan on making a Mosaic Monday post today because I have been so busy making driftwood crosses to sell in my booth.  I brought several up to the shop last Thursday and have already sold most of them out... so back to work I go, Hi Ho, Hi Ho.

I'm not complaining.. but when I work on these crosses I get a little ticked.  See we were planning on doing a fabulous Caribbean cruise for Spring Break this year when my sweet French husband realized that he sent his green card away to get renewed!!  Chances of him getting the new card back in 4 weeks is slim to ain't ever going to happen.  So in the meantime I will dream of what my Caribbean vacation would have been like...
